GTA 1991 Is A Full-Blown San Andreas Prequel Made Entirely By Modders – GAMINGbible

While we now have confirmation that the sequel to GTA V is in active development, we still have no idea how far off the game is or what state its in. Thankfully, we always have modders to keep us tided over with new, single-player content.

As reported by GamesRadar, GTA 1991 is a super ambitious total conversion mod of San Andreas that also serves as a sequel to the beloved 2004 video game. The mod aims to tell an entirely new story that dives into some of the deeper aspects of San Andreas Rockstar never really explored properly in its own game.

“We’re going all out, you know,” project co-creator deltaCJ tells the publication. “We want it to be everything. We want it to be Rockstar quality. We can’t do subpar.”

GTA 1991 started life as a smaller expansion, similar to the official Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories. However, it soon became clear that the ambitions of the team were bigger than they’d initially realised. The in-development game promises new weapons, vehicles, locations, voice acting, missions, and a completely original story about semi-obscure GTA characters Big Devil and brother Little Devil and a gang war that sparks a crack epidemic in the city. Heavy stuff.

Of all the new features, one of the most unusual is a realistic drug dealing system.

“I want players to be able to buy and sell drugs, I want them to be able to buy locations to sell from, be that crack houses or less run-down properties,” deltaCJ explains. “That might be a case of clearing out crack houses and taking out rival gangs, taking over the property and then having people come in to buy from you. I want players to be able to grow contacts on the street and be able to sell on corners.” 

GTA 1991’s first chapter is expected to launch later this month, provided the team don’t run into any trouble with Rockstar. The team hopes to launch the full game next year. You can read much more about its new features and the progress of its development right here.
